A MANUFACTURER of sportswear that supplies clothing for the Ryder Cup and other leading golfers has a small stake in the new Rangers company.

A spokesman for Glenmuir, which has supplied golfers around the world since 1891, said it had agreed on a minority shareholding after an associate was introduced to new chief executive Charles Green in the run up to his consortium's bid.

The Lanark-based firm said in a statement it would be involved in providing clothing for the club.

It is the official distributor of Sunderland of Scotland, supplies Open champion Paul Lawrie, and has clothed members of the Curtis Cup and Solheim Cup teams.

A spokesman said: "The transfer of the business and assets to a new company structure has taken immediate effect under the name The Rangers Football Club. I can confirm Glenmuir Ltd has taken a minority investment in the new company.

"The Glenmuir shareholders were introduced to Charles Green by a mutual acquaintance who has been a long standing business associate of the Glenmuir shareholders with a view to providing the new company with assistance on sourcing apparel product for its retail operations.

"Glenmuir is delighted to play a small part in the huge task of rebuilding Rangers and has taken a minority investment in the new company."
