DAVID Cameron was last night accused of overseeing a "spadocracy" after Downing Street figures showed the Coalition now has more special advisers than under the previous Labour Government.

The list of 81 spin doctors showed the Prime Minister has a team of 19 advisors while his deputy, Nick Clegg, has 14.

A Downing Street spokesman said the rise was mainly due to many of the new team only being recruited part way through the previous financial period.

Gareth Thomas, the Shadow Cabinet Office minister, said: "This increase in government spending on the 'spadocracy' when everyone else is being cut is further proof that in David Cameron's world it's one rule for him and another rule for everyone else."
