An injured welder has won more than £1 million compensation after a work accident left him paralysed.

Neil Duncan, 40, was paralysed from the waist down when he was hit across the back by a half-ton metal beam.

His colleagues had removed clamps which were holding a metal cross-piece in position above Mr Duncan and it fell 13ft to the floor on top of him.

The father-of-one has now been awarded compensation following a four-year battle with his former employers.

ForFab Ltd initially claimed Mr Duncan was partly to blame for the accident, but has now accepted full liability.

Mr Duncan said it had been a stressful time for his family, but he was glad the case had now been resolved.

He said: "This has obviously been a lengthy case and quite a difficult time for me and my family but I am pleased it has come to an end.

"It will be four years in May since the accident and although the accident was not my fault, it was a day that has changed my life forever."

Mr Duncan was working at the ForFab premises on Station Road, Bucksburn, Aberdeen, when the accident happened in May 2009.

ForFab no longer exists as a company and the cash was paid out by the firm's insurers.
