A man has appeared in court charged with the murder of another man whose body was found in a field almost a decade ago.

Douglas Fleming, 49, from the Aviemore area, has been charged with the alleged murder of Martin Toner and an attempt to pervert the course of justice.

He made no plea or declaration at Paisley Sheriff Court, was bailed pending further examination and is due to appear in court again at a later date.

A murder inquiry was launched when Mr Toner's body was discovered in a farmer's field at Gallahill Road in Langbank, Renfrewshire in July 2004.

Mr Toner, 34, was last seen on Tuesday June 29 2004 at around 3pm in Langbank's Main Street.

The father-of-two was at the Key To Life gym in Ashtree Road in Glasgow earlier that day.
