THE former Clyde 1 DJ Suzie McGuire will not stand trial as charges alleging she attacked her estranged husband have been dropped.

Lawyers from the Crown Office made the decision after reviewing the case following Derek Mitchell??s trial which ended last month.

The 35-year-old accountant is facing jail when he appears in court on December 15 after being convicted of a string of domestic assaults against Ms McGuire.

During his three-week trial the court heard the mother-of-four was left feeling like a broken woman who even tried to commit suicide in March 2013 in a bid to escape a ??life of terror??.

Mitchell was found guilty at Paisley Sheriff Court of three assaults between May and December 2011 and was also convicted of committing a breach of the peace in November 2009.

The former drivetime presenter spoke of her relief she no longer faces prosecution.

She said: ??After a nightmare two years, I have now been told I will not be prosecuted for the claims made by a man who was actually abusing me.??

Mitchell, she said, was a ??Prince Charming that turned into a Jekyll and Hyde character?? who had anger management issues she couldn't predict.

A Crown Office spokesman said: ??The case against Suzie McGuire or Mitchell has been carefully examined by Crown Counsel, the most senior lawyers in the Crown Office.

??A full review of the evidence which emerged during the trial of Derek Mitchell has also been carried out. Crown Counsel has decided there should be no further action is this case.??
