Three people have died after three separate crashes on Scotland's roads over the past week.

John Stevens, 30, died in hospital today after a collision in Aberdeenshire on Saturday.

The Aberdeen man's Porsche was involved in a crash with another car on the Birse to Finzean road.

In another incident, a 20-year-old man died in hospital in Edinburgh in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

He was taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary after a one-vehicle incident which happened in Colinton Road at about 12.45am on Tuesday.

Police appealed for any information about the crash.

Sergeant Keith Denholm said: "This is a tragic incident which has resulted in the death of a young man. Our condolences go out to the family at this time.

"We are still appealing for witnesses. Anyone with information regarding this collision is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101."

A third man has died and another is seriously injured after a van and lorry were involved in a crash on the M74.

Paul Brown, 52, from Motherwell, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident near Lockerbie.

He was a passenger in a Vauxhall Combo van which was involved in a collision with a Mercedes Astros articulated LGV near junction 17 northbound.

The 33-year-old driver of the van was injured and was taken by ambulance to Western General Hospital for treatment. Doctors described his condition as serious.

The driver of the lorry and his male passenger were uninjured in the accident, which happened at 4.50pm on Wednesday.

A report on the incident will be sent to the procurator fiscal, with Police Scotland appealing for anyone who witnessed the crash to contact them.
