The son of three-times Formula One champion Jack Brabham has been found guilty of the rape and indecent treatment of a young girl in Australia.

Gary Thomas Brabham, a former Formula Ford and Formula 3 driver in Britain and Europe, had been on trial at Brisbane's District Court after pleading not guilty to the charges involving a child under 12.

A jury found him guilty of the charges on Thursday after almost a day of deliberations.

During the trial, prosecutors alleged that the offences took place between 2003 and 2007 when the girl was between six and 10 years old. He will be sentenced in April.

Gary Brabham made an attempt at Formula One racing in 1990, but he failed to qualify for the first two races of the season and quit his team.

Jack Brabham died in May 2014.
