A Glasgow nursing home has been given less than a month to improve staffing or risk closure.

The Care Inspectorate has served a formal improvement notice on Drumpellier Lodge care home in Bargeddie.

Inspectors said owners Clancare Ltd must show they have sufficient levels of trained and skilled staff to meet residents' needs by April 30.

Otherwise, the 39-room facility faces being taken off the care home register.

The notice states: "Unless there is a significant improvement in provision of the service, it intends to make a proposal to cancel your registration."

The Care Inspectorate said operators must also prepare written personal plans for each resident by May 30, setting out how their health, welfare and safety needs are to be met.

A further requirement states they demonstrate they are providing "suitable and sufficient meaningful activities for service users to engage in", and says there must be access to outdoor space and events.

The Care Inspectorate is responsible for the registration and inspection of social care services in Scotland.

A spokeswoman said: "We have clearly set out the areas which require swift improvement at Drumpellier Lodge so that the care provided to residents reaches a standard that they have a right to expect.

"We will inspect this service again soon to check on progress and to ensure that improvements have been made.

"If we are not satisfied that sufficient progress is being made quickly, we will not hesitate to take further action.

"Everyone in Scotland has the right to safe, compassionate care which meets their needs and respects their rights."
