A DUNDEE United player has revealed how he was recognised by a knife- wielding man in his home as a famous footballer.

Willo Flood, who was playing for Manchester City at the time of the incident in 2005, said the conversation began as Paul Forden told him to take a plasma TV off the wall of his home.

Flood, 31, who also played for Aberdeen and Celtic, said: “In the middle of it he goes ‘oh are you Willo Flood?’ and I was like ‘yeah yeah’.

“He goes ‘don’t take this personally, this is nothing personal, I’m a big City fan’ and I was like ‘cheers’.”

Flood, who played 14 times for City, admitted it “wasn’t funny at the time” of the incident at his then home in Wythenshawe, near Manchester.

Forden was jailed for eight years after he pleaded guilty to aggravated burglary at Manchester Crown Court in 2006.

When he was arrested he was wearing a Manchester City football shirt.

Forden was later identified by Flood in photographs and took part in an identity parade wearing one of the club’s strips.
