A limited edition painted plate designed by iconic artist Pablo Picasso has sold for more than £4,000 at auction.

The illustrated ceramic plate - marked number 47 in a run of 150 - fetched £4,300 at McTear's in Glasgow.

The lot was bought by an anonymous collector after it became the subject of a bidding war.

Produced in France in 1963 and titled "Visage", the white earthenware ceramic piece shows an image of a face painted in Spanish artist Picasso's trademark Cubist style.

Brian Clements, from McTear's, said: "Simply put, Picasso is one of the greatest and most influential artists to have ever lived.

"The limited edition plate features an unmistakable Picasso image and we knew we had something quite special when it arrived at McTear's.
