The controversial “kettling” crowd control system was used by police on Rangers fans ahead of yesterday’s Old Firm derby at Parkhead.

A small band of supporters were surrounded by officers as they walked along Springfield Road near Celtic Park.

Kettling was declared unlawful in 2009, but two years later the Supreme Court ruled it was a legitimate tactic, within strict guidelines, as a way of preventing trouble if police suspected some was about to take place.
