THE Red Arrows were the star attraction as tens of thousands of people watched flying displays at the Scottish International Airshow.

The two-day event took place in Ayrshire, with and RAF Typhoon, the Belgian Air Force’s F16 fighter jet and US Mustangs also taking to the skies.

Doug Maclean, a director of the Scottish International Airshow, said estimates suggested around 110,000 had watched the airshow from across the region.

He said: “The airshow pilots said it was an amazing and astonishing sight to see from the air and a joy to take part.

"The crowd, especially with the poorer weather on Sunday, were delightful, patient and – as always – full of admiration for the pilots."

The event has generated around £17 million for the local economy in the past three years.
