A BUSINESSMAN has booked out every room in Donald Trump's Turnberry hotel for more than a week to celebrate the Jewish Passover festival.

Families from all over the world have arrived at the US President's Ayrshire resort this week for a luxury stay during the religious holiday.

The event has been organised by Arieh Wagner, a London-based high-end caterer who specialises in organising kosher events and has a team on site working with the hotel staff.

He advertised packages for the eight-day Passover celebration on his website which included rounds of golf, helicopter rides and shooting and fishing expeditions.

The main hotel building, which has around 150 rooms, is closed off to other guests and has gone kosher to conform to the regulations of kashrut, the Jewish dietary law.

A synagogue has been set up in the hotel for worship during the stay and on Monday night there was a concert by London-based Jewish singer Eitan Freilich.

There was also an exhibition at the five-star resort to showcase the Jewish tartan of Scotland.

A source said: "Every room in the main hotel building has been booked out and nobody else is allowed access. It's virtually unheard of for a group to take over an entire hotel in Scotland for more than a week.

"It must have cost an absolute fortune as it is a luxury resort and the rooms are not cheap.

"The staff were given a lengthy briefing of dos and don'ts before the guests arrived to make sure everything was done to adhere to their religious beliefs."

Passover, or Pesach in Hebrew, is an annual spring festival that Jews celebrate to remember the Israelites being freed from slavery in Egypt. This year its runs from March 30 to April 7.

Mr Wagner, 47, a Swiss national, has been posting updates about the Turnberry celebration on his social media pages.

On March 26 he wrote: "PESACH IN SCOTLAND. We have arrived - the Trump Turnberry is getting ready for our Pesach guests.

Be there!"

Posting a photo from his hotel bedroom window he wrote: "Only in Scotland will you get this sunshine! The west coast of Scotland is warmer than inland due to the warm Gulf Stream which influences the local climate. %23kosher."

The only rooms available at Trump Turnberry this week are villas situated in the hotel's grounds.

Mr Trump's firm purchased Turnberry for £39.5m in June 2014 and has carried out a multi-million refurbishment of the resort.

A spokesman for Trump Turnberry declined to comment.
