Scotland officials will continue their "open doors" policy by inviting fans to their latest big-match training stint.

Coach Frank Hadden and captain Jason White reckoned the presence of the punters played a key role in helping the squad prepare for the World Cup warm-up triumph over Ireland at Murrayfield.

Now, they want the crowds to turn up at the stadium tonight to watch the squad plan for Saturday's showdown with the Springboks at the same venue.

Hadden said: "The session begins on the back pitches at 6pm and will conclude at about 7.20pm when players will be available for photographs and autographs."

South Africa forward Jean de Villiers will miss the Murrayfield trip with a rib injury sustained in the 105-13 romp against Namibia. It was a case of deja vu for the prop, who suffered a similar problem before the World Cup in 2003.

He said: "It could have been much worse. Many things went through my mind. I had been in such a situation before.

"Taking the law of averages into account, one would not have thought that I'd find myself in that situation again."

De Villiers is confident he will be fit, however, in time for his country's second World Cup Group A match against champions England on September 14.

He added: "At this stage, we are looking at four weeks. I also broke a rib last year but this injury feels a lot better.

"I am already more active. The goal is to be fit for the match against England. I am optimistic that I'll be ready in time."
