GLASGOW has missed out on the chance to be the home of Channel 4's new head quarters.
The bid team has been told it has not been short listed for the building, but is still in the running for one of two smaller 'creative hubs'.
The Glasgow bid has been led by the journalist and broadcaster Stuart Cosgrove.
The city had high hopes for the bid, hoping it would attract Channel 4 to the city, boasting its strong independent production sector.
However it appears that Glasgow's geographical distance from London, and also other potential creative hubs, has worked against the bid.
Glasgow's bid for the main new HQ emphasised the city's independent production and digital sectors, the links between higher and further education and the creative industries, and the city’s social diversity.
Channel 4 are also looking to set up two commissioning hubs outside London, as well as the new National HQ.
The National HQ plan includes a studio as well as offices for around 300 staff.
Leeds, Birmingham and Greater Manchester are in the running for the headquarters.
Bristol, Cardiff, and Glasgow are in the running for the creative hubs.
Glasgow's bid received public support from both Edinburgh and Dundee.
Negotiations will now begin with six cities involved.
The locations for the new National HQ and two Creative Hubs will be announced in the autumn.
Jonathan Allan, chief commercial officer of Channel 4, said: "Our visits to the 13 shortlisted cities over the last month were incredibly inspiring and I’d like to thank all of those involved for the huge amounts of creativity they demonstrated and the excitement for Channel 4 and what we could achieve together.
“We have again had to take some very difficult decisions on which cities to take forward to the next stage, but we believe the six cities we have selected are best able to deliver against our vision and requirements for the new National HQ and Creative Hubs."
