THREE Tesco superstores are at the centre of a police investigation into suspected break-ins.

Cordons have been seen at the Tesco stores in Falkirk, Camelon and Bathgate while police make inquiries.

Both the Falkirk and Camelon stores which has been broken into were closed.  The Bathgate store remained open as the petrol station kiosk had been targeted.

The Herald:

One sign outside the Tesco in Camelon, where a window was seen to have been smashed,  stated that the closure was due to "unforeseen circumsstances" and that it will "remain closed until further notice".

Scenes of crime officers have been seen at the Falkirk retail park store.  Police with with dustmasks were seen.

Police said it was not yet clear what had been taken.  Unconfirmed reports suggest cash drawers and alcohol has been stolen.

Tesco confirmed on Monday lunchtime that the Falkirk store "briefly closed and re-opened mid-morning"  and that the Camelon store is expected to reopen shortly, subject to police guidance.

A spokesman for Police Scotland said: “Police in Falkirk and West Lothian were called to break-ins at supermarkets in Camelon, Falkirk and Bathgate.

“The incidents took place overnight and are currently being investigated.

“Inquiries to identify those responsible are on-going.”

A Tesco spokesman said:  “We are fully supporting the police with their investigations. Many thanks to our customers and colleagues for their understanding as we quickly returned to normal service.”
