THE SNP cut off the TV feed from its conference after a delegate got into a heated argument with the party chair on the main stage and accused him of “lying”.

Veteran activist Gerry Fisher, who has a reputation as a stickler on the rules and constitution of the party, was silenced after an incident with business convener Derek Mackay.

The live broadcast of the event in the media room cut to a test-card as two men sparred.

Mr Fisher raised a point of order after a debate on CPR training in schools to reveal he had lodged a complaint alleging a series of rule violations at the last SNP conference in June.

He said the party’s ruling national executive committee had not not been told of the charge because it involved the National Secretary, who was party of the disciplinary procedure.

Mr Mackay, who is also the Finance Secretary, said: “It’s not a point of order. It’s not a point of order, and you know I can rule from the chair.”

Mr Fisher replied: “It is a point of order. I am challenging the order on how this resolution got onto the agenda when it was placed there following at least 37 violations of the constitution and rules as to how you get items on debate.

“As the business manager involved in those 37 allegations of violations, which have not yet been heard, was an allegation that you yourself contributed to this by lying to June conference, lying to June conference on the Saturday morning.”

Mr Mackay said: “This is not a point of order. I’m sorry, this is totally out of order to do this to our party’s conference. This is not a point of order. I would just remind all delegates that the SOAC [standing orders and agenda committee] report is where conference determines the order of business.”

The live feed in the conference media room was then cut off.
