The nominations for the 91st Academy Awards have been revealed. 

Olivia Colman and Christian Bale are among the British stars celebrating after receiving Oscar nominations.

Norwich-born Colman earned a nod for her starring role in regal black comedy The Favourite, while Bale was recognised for his portrayal of controversial former US vice president Dick Cheney in Vice.

Bale is up against Bradley Cooper for A Star Is Born, Willem Dafoe for At Eternity's Gate, Rami Malek in Bohemian Rhapsody and Viggo Mortensen in Green Book.

Colman finds herself in the best actress category alongside Glenn Close for The Wife, Lady Gaga for A Star Is Born, Yalitza Aparicio for Roma and Melissa McCarthy for Can You Ever Forgive Me?

Colman's The Favourite co-star Rachel Weisz also picked up a nod in the supporting actress category.

British costume designer Sandy Powell has received two Oscar nominations in the costume design category for The Favourite and Mary Poppins Returns.

The nominees for supporting actress are Rachel Weisz and Emma Stone for The Favourite, Amy Adams for Vice, Regina King for If Beale Street Could Talk and Marina de Tavira for Roma.
 

The nominees in the best supporting actor category are Richard E. Grant for Can You Ever Forgive Me ?, Mahershala Ali for Green Book and Sam Rockwell for Vice.

Also nominated is Adam Driver for BlacKkKlansman and Sam Elliott for A Star Is Born.

Detainment, a short film about the murder of James Bulger, has been nominated for the live action short Oscar.

The official Marvel Twitter account congratulated Black Panther for Academy Award nominations, which included best original score, best sound editing, best sound mixing and best costume design.

The nominees for best director are Alfonso Cuaron for Roma, Spike Lee for BlacKkKlansman and Adam McKay for Vice. Also nominated are Pawel Pawlikowski for Cold War and Yorgos Lanthimos for The Favourite.

The best picture nominees are BlacKkKlansman, Black Panther, Bohemian Rhapsody, The Favourite, Green Book, Roma, A Star Is Born and Vice.

The official ROMA Twitter account has congratulated Yalitza Aparicio for her Academy Award nomination for best actress in a leading role.

Mark Ronson has responded to his Oscar nomination for original song for Shallow, from A Star Is Born.
