Outlander star Sam Heughan has spoken of his delight after receiving an honorary degree from the University of Stirling.

The Scottish actor - recognised for his outstanding contribution to acting and charitable endeavours - said he felt "fortunate to be sharing this special day with the other graduates and students".

In a video interview for The Herald, the 39-year-old also hinted at what fans could expect from Outlander Season 5, which is currently being shot in America.

The Herald:

He said: "Jamie Fraser is establishing Fraser's Ridge, the War of Independence is coming and there's going to be some great challenges ahead."

Heughan also discussed what's next for him this year, including starring alongside Vin Diesel in Hollywood superhero blockbuster 'Bloodshot'.

"I have a couple of movies coming out this year and I'm very excited for people to see them," he said. 

"One called 'Bloodshot' with Vin Diesel where I play a very different character and 'SAS: Red Notice' which is an action movie. I really had a great time shooting those."

The Outlander star added that he was "overwhelmed by the dedication and support" received for his charity movement My Peak challenge.

Heughan also addressed those Bond rumours that don't seem to be going away anytime soon.

"We'll see", he commented. "Bond wears a kilt and a blue robe I think?"
