A woman was attacked and suffered a serious sexual assault in a close near Edinburgh Waverley station.
Police have detained a man in connection with the incident in Carrubber's Close, which connects Jeffrey Street with the Royal Mile.
Witnesses reported seeing officers and a forensic team at the scene of the incident on Friday.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Police in Edinburgh are investigating a report of serious sexual assault on a 45-year-old woman.
"The incident happened around 3.15am on Friday 6th September in Carrubbers Close.
"A man has been arrested in connection with this investigation and inquiries are continuing."
