TRAIN services have been delayed and cancelled because of a power failure at Edinburgh Waverley station.

There have been cancellations from Waverley to Tweedbank and North Berwick while repairs continue.

Disruption has affected the key Glasgow to Edinburgh service and has also affected routes between the capital and Aberdeen, Inverness, Helensburgh and Milngavie.

Disruption was expected to last till 8am but been put back to 10.30am.

ScotRail said: "We had a failure of the electric supply at Edinburgh Waverley which is now live with the exception of platforms 5 and 6.

"Our overhead line staff are onsite and we will update as soon as possible."

ScotRail have said that some services are returning to normal with the earlier power outage being fixed and affecting two platforms within Waverley.

But there continues to be cancellations to services between Edinburgh and North Berwick, Tweedbank and Dunblane while there are delays to services to Inverness and Alloa.

ScotRail said that tickets can be used on some local buses, at no extra cost.

* With Edinburgh Trams between Edinburgh Gateway, Edinburgh Park, Haymarket and Edinburgh.

* With FirstBus between Stirling and Edinburgh on bus number 38.

* With Borders Buses between Edinburgh Waverley, Eskbank, Newtongrange, Gorebridge, Stow, Galashiels on bus route X95. Change at Galashiels for Tweedbank on bus route X62.

* With Lothian buses between Edinburgh, Brunstane, Newcraighall, Shawfair, Eskbank, Newtongrange, Gorebridge.

* With Lothian buses between Edinburgh, Musselburgh, Wallyford and Prestonpans.
