The family of a woman found dead at her flat in Aberdeen have paid tribute to the "much-loved mum, daughter, grandma and friend to many".
Margaret Robertson, 54, was found dead at around 1.20pm on Friday at the property in Promenade Court.
In a statement issued through Police Scotland, Ms Robertson's children Mark and Michelle also thanked officers and the local community for their help.
They said: "Margaret, or Meg as we all knew her, was a much-loved mum, daughter, grandma and friend to many.
"We have received and read countless messages of support and would like to thank everyone for their kind words at this extremely difficult time. Every member of Meg's family are heartbroken and she will be sorely missed by us all.
"It is hard to comprehend our mum has been taken from us and we will never, ever understand why this had to happen to her.
"The past few days have obviously been extremely difficult for us as a family and we would ask for privacy as we try to come to terms with our horrendous loss.
"We would like to thank the local community for the help and assistance they provided to police during the investigation.
"We would also like to thank Police Scotland for all their hard work, continued support and assistance throughout the investigation."
Earlier on Thursday, police said a 40-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with her death.
He is expected to appear at Aberdeen Sheriff Court on Friday.
Detective Inspector Gary Winter said: "Thank you to the members of the local community who have provided information and assistance in relation to our investigation - your help and support has been appreciated.
"A police presence will remain in the area while our inquiries continue and I would still encourage anyone with information to approach our officers if you think you can help."
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
