THE HUG and Pint, the Glasgow venue, bar and eatery is to shut up shop from Tuesday until further notice.

It means all of the current shows at the 120-capacity venue are either cancelled or postponed.

In response to this sudden closure, The Hug and Pint has moved to set up an online Hardship Fund to support its staff via a crowd fundraising page.

Future events included a Glasgow International Comedy Festival appearance by Raheil Ahmad on March 28 and acclaimed Scottish bands Meursault, L Space and Stanley Odd on April 23,  May 8 and May 14 respectively.

An official statement from the venue reads: "As always, the safety and health of staff, customers, artists and all others is of the utmost importance. However, this incredibly difficult decision has not been made lightly, and our focus now needs to be on protecting the future of the venue and doing our best to ensure staff welfare.

“With this in mind, we will set up a Hardship Fund for staff to support them while the venue is closed. All funds raised on this page will be used to support staff financially while trying to safeguard and protect the future of the venue."

The Herald:

A venue spokesman said that any cancelled shows will be entitled to a refund, but tickets for postponed shows will be honoured for rescheduled dates.

"We're trying to reschedule as many shows as possible, on the basis that we will be able to push ahead with these shows at a later date," said the spokesman.

The venue is encouraging everyone in the community who is able and willing to show their support - and wants to play a part in safeguarding the future of The Hug and Pint - to donate generously to the fund.

In return the venue says  donations will be rewarded with Hug and Pint-related items and other incentives for larger donations, should donors be able to help.

This will include Hug and Pint merchandise, limited edition posters, concert packages and other unique items. Please visit the official fundraising page for full details.
