Outdoor exercise during the day has been banned in Paris to combat the spread of COVID-19.

Authorities in the capital say the new rules are in force between 10am and 7pm local time, and will come into effect on Wednesday.

Deaths in the country continue to rise daily, and current statistics show the figures have risen above 10,000, marking the fourth-highest figure after Italy, Spain and the US.

The country's total stands at 10,328, which is an increase of 16% compared with the Monday total.

France has been under strict lockdown rules for almost a month and people must show a printed form with reasons for being outside every time they leave their homes.

However, a sunny weekend saw hundreds of Parisians walking and jogging in groups across the city, despite the threat of fines of over €135 (£120).

Although daytime exercise is banned, new jogging rules in place will ensure people exercise 'when the streets are generally at their quietest', according to Paris mayor Anne Hidalgo.
