SNP MPs and Jim Shannon of the DUP have teamed up to have Westminster celebrate "geekness", in an Early Day Motion. 

Owen Thompson, the newly elected SNP MP for Midlothian tabled the motion to recognise Embrace Your Geek Day in Parliament.

The motion, with has been signed by Mr Shannon and fellow nationalist Chis Stephens reads: "That this House celebrates that 13 July 2020 marks Embrace Your Geekness Day; notes that today is the day for people who are into geeky activities, from fandoms to dungeon games to comic books to having an encyclopaedic knowledge of Star Wars lore; notes that Embrace Your Geekness day was organised by Wellcat Holidays to encourage people to be proud of the things that define them, make them unique, and make them the most passionate; and encourages everyone to embrace and be proud of what makes them a geek."

Both Mr Shannon and Mr Stephen signed the motion today, a day after Embrace Your Geekness Day. 

MPs can use Early Day Motions to bring specific causes, anniversaries, events and the achievements of their constituents to the attention of the parliament.
