Verona Comic

Jennifer Dugan

GP Putnam’s Sons, £10

What is the book about?

This quirky modern take on Romeo and Juliet is told from the perspective of Jubilee, the stepdaughter of an indie comic book artist and owner of the Verona Comics shop, and Ridley who’s father’s large comic chain is trying to buy it. The two begin their complex relationship which overlaps with their individual coming of age struggles that seem almost parallel.

Who is it aimed at?

This is more aimed towards those 13 and older.

What was your favourite part?

I loved the honesty with which their experiences were portrayed.

What was your least favourite?

The plot was hard to keep up with.

Which character would you most like to meet?

Ridley. I felt a strong connection to him through the chapters written in his perspective, often more so than Jubilee’s character.

Why should someone buy this book?

At first I thought I was getting a light, summer book. Although it was a quick read with its share of softer moments, it developed into something so much more.
