AN animal charity is hoping to raise money by offering to draw peoples' pets - badly.

Scottish SPCA staff and volunteers, none of whom are professional artists, will sketch a likeness of people's cats, dogs and other companions in exchange for a donation.

While none of the resulting pictures would likely be picked to hang in a gallery, the charity is hoping people will welcome the chance to have a one-of-a-kind 'pawtrait' of their pet.

Scots celebrities KT Tunstall, Gail Porter and comedian Neil Bratchpiece, who performs as 'The Wee Man', have joined forces to launch the campaign, which is being dubbed Badly Drawn Pets.

The Herald:

Neil Bratchpiece's effort

Each drew an animal currently being cared for by the Society, which are waiting to be rehomed.

Scottish SPCA fundraising manager, Paul McKeown said, “We are so happy to have Gail Porter, KT Tunstall and The Wee Man launch our Badly Drawn Pets event.

“Although our staff and volunteers are not professional artists, we do hope that we might make you laugh this festive season. There may even be a budding Banksy hiding right under our noses.

“This is a fun way to raise much needed funds for Scotland’s animals, and hopefully put a smile on animal lovers' faces.”

He added: “All you need to do is upload a picture and brief description of your pet to our website to give our ‘artists’ some inspiration, and make a donation. Then you’ll get a digital copy sent to you within 14 days."
