A teenage girl has died after being struck by a car on a major Glasgow road on Saturday.

Emergency services were called to the incident on Great Western Road in the city's west end at around 7.45pm near its junction with Garscadden Road.

The 16-year-old was taken to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital where she later died.

Police say enquiries are ongoing.

A spokeswoman for Police Scotland said: “A 16-year-old girl has died following a collision on Great Western Road last night.

"Officers were called to the incident, near to the junction of Garscadden Road, around 7.45pm after reports a pedestrian had been hit by a car.

"The teenager was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, where she passed away.

"Enquiries are ongoing."
