Dr. Jill Biden is set to become the new First Lady of the United States.

The English teacher refers to herself as a ‘lifelong educator, military mother, grandmother, sister, author, and wife’.

How old is Jill Biden?

Born in Hammonton, New Jersey, she moved to Delaware for college, graduating in 1975. The 69-year-old describes herself as an introvert and is the oldest of five sisters. She was raised by Bonny and Donald Jacobs just outside Philadelphia in Willow Grove, Pennsylvania.

How did Jill Biden meet Joe?

She met the future US president on a blind date when she was at college, and they tied the knot in 1977, with Joe proposing four times before she said yes at the fifth.

She had previously been married to college footballer player Bill Stevenson but they divorced in 1975. She told Vogue "By that time, of course, I had fallen in love with the boys, and I really felt that this marriage had to work. Because they had lost their mom, and I couldn’t have them lose another mother."

Do Joe Biden and Jill have any children?

The couple has one child together, a daughter named Ashley who was born in 1981, and is a social worker.

She founded the fashion company Livelihood, which raises money to try and eliminate income inequality in the US.

Jill is also step-mum to Joe's son Hunter from a previous relationship. She was also Joe's late son Beau's step-mum. who died from a brain tumour in 2015.

Joe's first wife Neilia and the couple's 13-month old daughter Naomi died in a car accident three years before he met Jill.

Their sons, Beau and Hunter, survived the crash.

What is Jill Biden's job?

Dr Biden has been an educator for more than 30 years and earned a Doctorate in Education from the University of Delaware in 2007.  When she was Second Lady of the United States from 2009 to 2017 she continued to teach English full-time at a community college in Virginia. She has previously said she plans to continue teaching if she becomes First Lady.

What has Joe Biden said about Jill?

In his acceptance speech, Joe Biden said he would be “honoured” to be serving alongside Kamala Harris and also paid tribute to how important his wife is to him.

“As I said many times before, I’m Jill’s husband,” he said, adding that he would not be where he is without the “love and tireless support” of her and their family.

“They are my heart. Jill’s a mom, a military mom, and an educator.

“She has dedicated her life to education, but teaching isn’t just what she does, it’s who she is.

“For America’s educators, this is a great day – you’re going to have one of your own in the White House, and Jill is going to make a great first lady,” he said.

What has Jill Biden said about her husband's administration?

Jill Biden is of course familiar with the White House following Joe Biden serving as the VP to Barack Obama. Melania Trump did refuse to offer a tour, as per tradition to the future First Lady. On the success of her husband she said: "We're going to build on what we learned during the Obama-Biden administration. We'll continue to listen and work with you."
