Good Morning Britain host Piers Morgan stormed off the set of the ITV show this morning after facing criticism from GMB colleague Alex Beresford.

Beresford criticised the way he “continues to trash” Meghan Markle following the airing of the Oprah interview on STV yesterday.

Co-host Susanna Reid was forced to send GMB for an early advert break after Morgan walked off the set live on air.

Morgan, who has been critical of the interview before it aired in the UK said of Meghan's comments: “I’m sorry, I don’t believe a word she said, Meghan Markle. I wouldn’t believe it if she read me a weather report.”

During a debate section of the show, Beresford accused Piers Morgan of 'diabolical behaviour' stating that his comments on the show yesterday regarding Meghan Markle was “incredibly hard to watch”.

He said: "I hear Piers say William has gone through the same thing but, do you know what, siblings experience tragedy in their life and one will be absolutely fine and brush it off and the other will not be able to deal with it so strongly and that is clearly what has happened with Harry in this situation.

The Herald:

“He walked behind his mother’s coffin at a tender, tender age in front of the globe. That is going to shape a young boy for the rest of his life, so I think we all need to take a step back, and I understand that you don’t like Meghan Markle, you’ve made it so clear a number of times on this programme.”

“And I understand you’ve got a personal relationship with Meghan Markle or had one and she cut you off.

"She’s entitled to cut you off if she wants to. Has she said anything about you since she cut you off?

"I don’t think she has but yet you continue to trash her.”

Morgan then stood up and said: “OK, I’m done with this” and walked off set, saying: “Sorry, no… sorry, can’t do this…” as he stormed off set as Beresford called his actions "diabolical behaviour".

As he walked off set, Beresford added on to his comments saying: “Do you know what? That’s pathetic. This is absolutely diabolical behaviour.

He added: “I’m sorry but Piers spouts off on a regular basis and we all have to sit there and listen, 6.30 to seven o’clock yesterday was incredibly hard to watch, incredibly hard to watch. This is, you know, he has the ability to come in here and talk from a position where he doesn’t fully understand.”

Susanna Reid was then forced to take the show for an early advert break amid silence from the gantry.

ITV chief executive Carolyn McCall revealed ITV are “discussing” the comments surrounding Meghan Markle with GMB host Piers Morgan on Monday where he said he did not believe the comments from Meghan.

In a statement they said: “We were disappointed and concerned to see Piers Morgan’s comments on not believing Meghan’s experiences about suicidal thoughts today.

“We are in conversations with ITV about this at the moment. If you or anyone you know is feeling impacted by the discussions that have taken place today, please reach out for support using the signposts in the thread below.”

It continued: “It’s vital that when people reach out for support or share their experiences of ill mental health that they are treated with dignity, respect and empathy.”

Following the show, Morgan tweeted: "Sure. I just prefer not to sit there listening to colleagues call me diabolical."

The incident sparked much debate on social media and was soon trending on Twitter.

One user wrote: "Piers Morgan walking off set as he’s called out by Alex Beresford. And he has the nerve to call other people snowflakes? Well done Alex!"

Another added: "Thank god for Alex Beresford on #gmb"

One user added: "Alex Beresford just made Piers Morgan walk off the set of GMB and it's my favourite thing of the day already."
