The Olympic track cycling is underway, with lots of medal hopes for GB in Tokyo's velodrome.

Team GB are the reigning champions in various events, including the men's team sprint, for which they hold the Olympic record.

It's a title they will be looking to defend as they take position on the start line on Tuesday morning in qualification.

Jason Kenny is a well known face on the track, but will he return to defend his title this year?

Here's everything you need to know about when the team sprint final is, who is in team GB and their medal hopes...

What time is the men's team sprint?

The qualification round of the men's team sprint will start at 7:58am UK time.

Since Team GB are the reigning Olympic champions, they will go last with seven teams racing before them.

Teams are then seeded for the first round based on their qualification times.

The first rounds will then take place between 8:50am and 9:00am UK time.

The bronze medal race will go at 9:41am, while the gold medal race will take place at 9:44am.

Who is racing in the men's team sprint for GB?

Four riders make up the GB team for the men's sprint, including defending Olympic champion Jason Kenny.

He will be racing for the chance to become Britain's most successful Olympian outright, a title he currently shares with Sir Chris Hoy.

Joining him are Olympic debutants Jack Carlin and Ryan Owens and double Olympic champion Philip Hindes.

As defending Olympic champions from 2008, 2012 and 2016, GB will not go down without a fight.

The team, and in particular Kenny, is known for peaking at the right time, however with the Netherlands breaking the world record in 2020, it's unlikely to be easy racing.

How does the team sprint work?

In the team sprint, teams of four complete 3 laps of the track as fast as they can.

They are then seeded based on time, and go head to head with another team.

Each team starts at the opposite side of the track and the first team to complete three laps wins.
