HBO has released a preview for its original series House of the Dragon, which is coming to HBO and HBO Max in 2022.

The show is a prequel to the popular HBO series Game of Thrones, based on George R.R. Martin’s book Fire & Blood.

House of the Dragon is set 200 years before Game of Thrones and tells the story of House Targaryen.

The preview does not give much away but does tease some iconic battle scenes, similar to those in GoT and shows the infamous Iron Throne.

The Targaryen family were originally portrayed by Emilia Clarke, who played ‘Mother of Dragons’ Daenerys and Harry Lloyd as her brother Viserys in the Game of Thrones series.

Emmy-winning Miguel Sapochnik, who directed six episodes of the GoT series, will be a showrunner working alongside executive-producer and showrunner Ryan Condal, who is well-known for the 2014 film Hercules.

Makers of the show confirmed the series is now in production and will be released in 2022, although a release date has not been set yet.

Who is in the cast?

Paddy Considine will play King Viserys Targaryen alongside Emma D’Arcy, who will play the King’s first-born child Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen.

Doctor Who’s Matt Smith will portray Prince Daemon Targaryen, the brother of the king and heir to the throne.

Also joining the cast is It’s a Sin actor Steve Toussaint and Eve Best, known for The King’s Speech.

Others that have signed on for the series include Rhys Ifans and Sonoya Mizuno.

Where can I watch the series?

HBO Max is not currently available on any TV or streaming service in the UK.

Sky and HBO have a deal that allows Sky to broadcast its programmes exclusively, so it is likely that Sky will show House of Dragons when it comes out in the US.
