More than 3,000 new Covid infections have been recorded by the Scottish Government in the past 24 hours.

A total of 3,055 fresh cases have been identified, a rise of almost 1,000 from yesterday's total of 2,056.

There have been a further 34 new reported deaths, an increase from yesterday's total of 21. 

The number of people in hospital being treated for the virus in hospital is now 988, a fall from yesterday's total of 998.

Of those being treated in hospital, 68 are in intensive care, three more than the day before.

The overall death toll from the virus in Scotland is now 8,721 by the Scottish Government's measure, which counts those who registered a positive test in the past 28 days.

Separate figures produced by National Records of Scotland, which report deaths where Covid was mentioned on the death certificate, put the number at 11,134 as of 3 October. 

 

Of the 46,892 new tests for Covid-19 which reported results yesterday, 6.9% per cent were positive.

The vaccination scheme continues to roll out, 4,229,178 people have received the first dose of the Covid vaccination and 3,852,067 have received their second dose.
