ST JOHNSTONE stopper Jamie McCart insists he and his teammates are ready to put another impressive run of form together.
Callum Davidson’s men were defeated by Livingston last week, losing 3-0 in Perth to the surprise of many.
Uncharacteristically, the McDiarmid Park side’s defending was poor, and some catastrophic errors led to two of the Lions’ goals.
McCart was absent from the team from the victory over Dundee prior to the international break after being sent off against Hibs the week previously.
And the former Celtic defender says he will learn a lot from the experience, having boasted an almost perfect disciplinary record until then.
He said: “I suppose it’s football in a nutshell but you have to take the bad times with the good.
“It was disappointing at the time (Hibs red card) but I realised afterwards that I should have handled the situation a lot better. Emotions got the better of me.
“You can't control everything that happens on the pitch and you have to accept decisions and move on.
“I take pride in not getting red or even many yellow cards either.
“It was extremely disappointing from my view regardless of what had happened before in the game.
“Maybe it was naïve of me but it was uncharacteristic. I apologised to the gaffer. It shouldn’t have happened but I have moved on.
“As you get older and with the more games you play you realise you probably get one of those situations every week. So it is going to happen to some team.
“Obviously I didn't react in the best fashion that time. But it is something I have to learn from and make sure it never happens again.
“It was extremely disappointing against Livingston. From the first whistle we just weren’t at it collectively.
“The manager said it was uncharacteristic of us so we just have to put that behind us and show why we got so much credit for the way we defended last season and at the start of this season.”
Saints earned a deserved draw at Celtic Park last December in Premiership action when facing Neil Lennon’s struggling Bhoys.
McCart reckons Saints can take great confidence from that experience, but will need to be wary of the Hoops’ new attacking threats.
He added: “Any team we play we are confident we can pick up some sort of result.
“We know if we perform to our best there is a chance of getting a result there, no matter how difficult it might be.
“They’ve been doing it all season they’ve been excellent. It’s been really exciting for the league – two foreign players coming in and really performing well.
“It’s great for the league. I wouldn’t say it’s great for defenders but it’s a good test to come up against. It’s a challenge and you’ve got to go and meet it head on.”
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
