SCOTLAND RATINGS

Stuart Hogg As always, the captain led by example, showing the self-belief and the energy to inspire his team to victory. 8 out of 10

Darcy Graham Always went looking for work in a match where space was at a premium for the wide men. 7

Chris Harris Had to dig deep against an impressive Australian midfield and grew in influence as the game went on. 7

Sam Johnson Some important interventions in attack in addition to the usual barrel-load of work in defence. 8

Duhan van der Merwe The winger had little possession to work with and was well tackled by Nic White when he got his one real chance. 7

Finn Russell Played an inventive and varied game as usual, sparking some important attacks. Contributed five points with the boot. 8

Ali Price Linked up well with his pack to keep the pressure on the Wallabies. 8

Pierre Schoeman Just a second cap, but another mature outing from the Edinburgh prop. 8

George Turner  The Glasgow hooker was forced off by injury after only 11 minutes. 5

Zander Fagerson Made life very uncomfortable for James Slipper in the scrum and carried well too. 8

Sam Skinner Conspicuous for his intelligent leadership at vital times as well as his hard work at the set piece. 7

Best of the rest

Josh Bayliss A crucial rip from Perese with minutes to go was a crucial intervention from the Bath player on his debut. 7

Kyle Steyn Good contribution on both sides of the ball from the winger after coming on for the final quarter. 7

AUSTRALIA RATINGS

Andrew Kellaway The full-back defended well and had little chance to contribute on the counter-attack. 7

Jordan Petaia Injured just before half-time after having little or no real chance to make a telling contribution. 5

Len Ikitau Made a telling contribution in midfield as the teams battled each other to a standstill. 8

Hunter Paisami Some really good offensive defence made the centre his team’s most valuable performer on the day. 8

Tom Wright Willing to come off his wing in search of work and defended well against Darcy Graham. 7

James O’Connor Kicked astutely on the whole - but his failure to find touch with a very late penalty was a costly error. 7

Nic White The scrum-half was a bristling bundle of energy and aggression and worked well with his pack. 8

James Slipper A tough afternoon for the veteran loosehead, who was given a tough time in the scrum by Zander Fagerson then had to move to tighthead. 6

Folau Fainga’a Contributed well in the loose in addition to performing his set-piece duties efficiently. 7

Allan Alaalatoa Yellow-carded late in first half for needless swinging arm to Matt Fagerson’s head - an action which also saw a try for his team chalked off. 6

Rory Arnold An invaluable source of clean lineout ball and a powerful influence round the park. 7

Izack Rodda Worked well with Arnold in the Wallabies second row as the tourists fought to get the better of the arm-wrestle. 7

Rob Leota Finished well for his team’s only try and was a strong influence at the breakdown. 7

Michael Hooper The captain finished well late in first half but had the ‘try’ ruled out for Alaalatoa’s offence. Covered energetically in defence as well. 8

Rob Valetini The No 8 was briefly sacrificed for a prop after his team’s yellow card and had to battle hard to compete with an increasingly confident Scotland back row. 6

Best of the rest

Izaia Perese On for debut in 40th minute and defended well - but had crucial possession ripped from him near the end.

Will Skelton The lock gave his pack a boost after coming on for his first international for five years.
