While the game will be won or lost by the 30 players on the pitch, the person holding the whistle does have an impact on the game.

The first Round 3 game sees Scotland take on France at Murrayfield.

France is the only team to remain unbeaten in this year's competition but Scotland will be hoping to end that winning streak to keep their title hopes alive.

Karl Dickson may be familiar to English rugby fans, having played more than 150 times for Harlequins.

The 39-year-old former scrum half has now made the transition to refereeing rather than refereed.
