THE closure this afternoon of the Marks & Spencer store in Sauchiehall Street will bring to an end almost 90 years of trading there.

The store opened in 1935 and, based in one of Glasgow's – and Scotland's – best-known streets, it attracted a huge army of loyal customers, decade after decade, while seeing the street's own fortunes soar and decline.

But what the company describes as "changing shopping habits" meant that the store is having to close.
