With just a week to go until the s1jobs Recruitment Awards 2023 take place in Glasgow, anticipation is growing over who this year’s winners will turn out to be.

When the list of finalists was announced last month it revealed just how wide-ranging the reach of this annual event has become as amongst those short-listed were software specialists, hospitality brands, transport companies, global drinks firms and a range of different charities, as well as direct providers of human resources services.

Between them they represent some of the best examples of creativity and good practice in a sector where new approaches have had to be developed quickly in order to ensure good recruitment journeys and to achieve staff retention at a time when staff shortages have become an issue.

And it’s not just in recruiting and retaining staff that this year’s finalists have excelled; in many cases they have developed fresh ways of ensuring equality and diversity in the workplace; have invested substantially into staff training and development and supported young employees at the start of their careers.

The winners will be announced next Thursday, April 20, at DoubleTree by Hilton in Glasgow, when host Luke Kempner, familiar from many TV appearances and radio shows, oversees an evening of celebration as a total of 19 awards are handed out, including awards for HR Team of the Year sponsored CIPD, Best Creative Idea sponsored by Simon Community Scotland and Best Recruitment Campaign.

Amongst those awaiting the results with anticipation is Barchester Healthcare, an independent care provider with homes across the UK, who have been shortlisted in five categories, including ‘Best In-House Recruitment Team’ and ‘Best Early Careers Employer sponsored by Search.’

Lauren Ashfield, Recruitment Marketing Manager, Barchester Healthcare, says: “Our Recruitment Team are really looking forward to this year’s event because, as a business, we recognise the value of industry awards, especially the S1 Awards. To be shortlisted in five categories is a fantastic achievement for us and to go on to win would be the icing on the cake – it’s invaluable recognition for what we do and the hard work of the team. However, the competition is strong, so we are wishing everyone the best of luck!

And it is not just the finalists who are anticipating the event; sponsors too are eagerly awaiting the outcome of this year’s awards.

Catriona Dick is Group Head of Human Resources with Zonal, a leading provider of technology solutions to the hospitality industry and sponsor of the Best Diversity and Inclusion Initiative category at this year’s awards. She says: “Zonal are delighted to be sponsoring the Best Diversity Initiative. The award night itself is always a highlight in our calendar and being able to get together in person, network, share our successes and generally celebrate the best of our industry is so worthwhile, we wish all the finalists the very best of luck.”

Alistair Dickson, Director of People & Technology , Quarriers who are the headline partner of the 2023 awards said “We are hugely excited to be attending this year’s awards and to be nominated for four is simply amazing and testament to the hard work and dedication of the Quarriers team! Good luck to all the finalists, and above all I hope everyone attending has a great night and has an opportunity to make some new contacts.”

And a spokesperson for LHH Recruitment Solutions, sponsors of the Best Charity Employer Award, says: “The incredible work that Scotland’s Third Sector delivers at home and internationally has never been so important. LHH has been privileged to support the sector for over a decade and we’ve seen the difference that our Third Sector contributes to creating a fairer society with equal access to opportunities and services for all.

“As a business, we connect talented and passionate people to Scotland’s vibrant Third Sector; bringing together experiences and skills honed in different environments with those who are committed to being part of an organisation that has a stronger purpose, where values and people are everything.  Good luck to all the finalists this year.”

Lee Ann Panglea, Head of the CIPD in Scotland and Northern Ireland said: "The anticipation is building for next week's s1jobs Recruitment Awards, and we're looking forward to a fantastic evening. Best of luck to everyone who has made it onto the shortlist, in particular to the four finalists in the 'HR Team of the Year' category whose hard work has earned them this well-deserved recognition, and we can't wait to announce who will be taking home this prestigious award."

Hazel Gillespie, Director, Gillespie People Solutions who are sponsors of the Best Recruitment Consultant of the Year said, “As the Awards night approaches, the excitement is definitely building!  Aside from it being a great night and an opportunity to catch up with so many familiar faces, we really love seeing people being recognised for their talent and what they bring to the recruitment industry. Of course everyone would love to pick up the award, but all the finalists should all be really delighted to have been shortlisted – good luck to everyone!”
