A search for an aircraft that lost contact over the North Sea has been stood down.

The light aircraft, with one person on board, took off from Germany.

The plane reportedly lost contact between Shetland and Norway.

A search operation was launched by HM Coastguard after the alarm was raised on Monday, with a fixed wing aircraft sent to investigate the area.

The search was then stood down on Monday evening after no sign of the aircraft was found, BBC News reports.
