Fire crews battled through the night to contain a major blaze which broke out in a block of flats. 

Firefighters were called out last night after the alarm was raised in Francis Street, in the town of Lochgelly, Fife, around 7pm. 

Three appliances, including two high-reach devices, remained at the scene this morning, No casualties have been reported.  

Footage from the scene shows flames breaking through the roof of the four-story building and illuminating the night sky.  

At the height of the blaze seven appliances were called to the site of the fire. The building was evacuated and a rescue centre set up at the nearby Lochgelly town hall.  

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said this morning: "We were alerted at 7.05pm on Monday, October 23 to reports of a dwelling fire at Francis Street, Lochgelly.

"Operations Control initially mobilised two appliances to the scene and on arrival firefighters increased to seven appliances and two specialist appliances.

"As of Tuesday, October 24 at 9.30am, our firefighters remain on scene working to extinguish the fire affecting the roof of a flat on the top floor of a four-storey property.

"No casualties have been reported and three fire appliances and specialist resources remain in attendance."

People living nearby were warned to keep their windows and doors closed as the blaze raged on. 

A Police Scotland spokesperson said last night: "Emergency services are in attendance at a building fire on Francis Street, Lochgelly. 

"Officers are assisting with a number of road closures and diversions are in place. Please avoid the area if possible. 

"Some residents have been evacuated and a rest centre has been set up at the Lochgelly Town Hall on Bank Street for anyone affected. 

"Local residents are urged to keep windows and doors closed due to smoke." 

Fife Council added: "Fire in Lochgelly, residents evacuated. 

"Please follow police advice."
