Christmas is not far away and a number of events and markets are planned in Glasgow this festive period. 

Elfingrove, the hugely popular winter wonderland at Kelvingrove Art Galleries, has been cancelled this year after organisers said they had been hit by "skyrocketing prices".

But Christmas hasn't been cancelled in Glasgow, and there are still plenty of other festive events including markets, a Christmas lights switch-on, and Winterfest to enjoy. 

When is Glasgow's Winterfest Christmas market in 2023?

The Herald:

Glasgow's Winterfest will transform George Square and St Enoch Square into a winter wonderland, organisers M&N Events say. 

In George Square there will be an ice rink, festival bar, rides, attractions, live music, a silent disco and festive stalls on offer. And St Enoch Square will also have Christmas offerings including a festive bar.

Winterfest in opens in George Square on Saturday, November 25 and runs until January 4, 2023

While the event in St Enoch Square will take place from Saturday, November 10 until Saturday, December 30

Tickets for the Winterfest ice rink and big wheel are available on the Itison website - with discounts available for early birds. 

Glasgow Fort Christmas Market

Glasgow Fort is holding a Christmas market this festive season, running from Saturday November 18 to Friday December 29

There will be a selection of food and drink stalls with mini Dutch pancakes, Yorkshire pudding wraps, and hot churros all available, as well as a return of the Bavarian bar and swing grill. 

The markets will be accompanied by a funfair with candy cane trampolines, a big wheel, and rides as well as stalls selling craft gifts and decorations. 

While on Saturday December 2, Glasgow Fort will host a live DJ session in front of the new Zara store with disco ball heads, mirror men dancers, and a "glow bot". 

There will also be more than £2,500 worth of prizes from stores and restaurants in the shopping centre, including a £250 gift voucher at River Island, a £100 Next voucher, and more than 30 £20 vouchers for Stack & Still, Frankie & Benny's and Wagamama. 

Riverside Museum Christmas market

Shoppers can be transported back to Victorian Glasgow at the Riverside Museum in Govan.

It is is hosting its Christmas market on Saturday December 2 and Sunday December 3, 2023. 

Expect to browse dozens of unique stalls where you can find Christmas gifts and treats for all the family.

The Night Market Christmas special

The Night Market in Cottiers Theatre returns for a two-night Christmas special this festive period, on Thursday December 7 and Friday December 8. 

Expect the venue to be filled with local Scottish traders, artisans, vintage suppliers, jewellers, bakers and more, as well as street food, a bar, and guest DJs. 

Tickets are available online for various timeslots, with prices starting at £3. Double night tickets are available for £5 as each night will have different stalls to browse.

When is Glasgow's Christmas lights switch on?

Glasgow's Christmas lights switch on will take place in George Square on Sunday, November 19 from 4.30pm-7pm. 

Hosted by Clyde1 presenters George Bowie and Cassi Gillespie, the event will include live music, sing-a-longs, a choir and entertainment from Treasure Island pantomime stars.

Glasgow Style Mile Christmas Carnival

A Christmas Carnival will bring "festive spectacle, performance and entertainments" around the Style Mile in Glasgow city centre this winter. 

The event will take place on Sunday, November 26, from 1pm. There will be street performers in Buchanan Street and inside the St Enoch, Buchanan Galleries, Princes Square and Argyll Arcade shopping centres.

Christmas characters will be available to greet crowds, including Father Christmas and Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer, cheeky elves, musical snowmen, and dancing snowflakes.

There will also be a choir performance, street art and more.
