Fire near Glenfinnan viaduct forces train delays and cancellations

Trains travelling on a line passing through Glenfinnan are facing delays due to a fire.

ScotRail has confirmed a blaze near the line, which includes the viaduct, means services are facing delays, alterations or cancellations.

The viaduct, which is a popular spot for fans of Harry Potter to visit due to its appearances in the film, has only recently had £3.4 million worth of repairs completed.

A short statement from ScotRail said: “Due to a fire near the line at Glenfinnan, the line has been blocked.

"Services are unable to pass through the area at the moment. Services are subject to delays, alterations and cancellations.”

The Glenfinnan viaduct opened in 1901 and is the largest mass concrete viaduct in Scotland, spanning more than 1,000 feet. The build cost £18,904 at the time, which is around £2 million in today’s money.
