A new left-wing political party founded by former Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn and MP Zarah Sultana will launch its first Scottish branch at a public assembly in Glasgow next month.

Their branch launch in Scotland's largest city comes ahead of the Holyrood elections in May 2026, with reports suggesting the new left-wing party will field candidates north of the border.

Former Labour leader Mr Corbyn is also expected to address a picket later today at a Glasgow hotel where workers are engaged in a historic strike action.

An assembly and social will take place at the Renfield Centre on Friday, September 5, from 6.30pm.

Your Party, which is being established by the two MPs, has already attracted more than 800,000 sign-ups across the UK.

In a founding statement, Your Party Glasgow wrote: “Glaswegians are champing at the bit for change. We are ready to play our part in building a new democracy from the grassroots up. This means not only how society is run but also how our party is built. It must be democratic, accountable and rooted in communities and for the working class.

“What unites us are shared principles and common struggles. We believe in equality, solidarity, democracy and justice. From these socialist principles come the fights we must take on: against capitalism, social injustice, genocide and war. We stand in defence of public services for the many, with grassroots power at its heart.

“We agree that Glasgow, Scotland and all other regions and branches should bear equitable responsibilities, have organisational and decision making autonomy, and recognise the need to build bridges and a working partnership across the left.

“This is only the beginning. We know there are more folk out there just as passionate about real change. We want you with us. It’s Your Party after all!”

The Glasgow event marks the latest stage in the development of Your Party, which supporters say will prioritise local organising and grassroots democracy while seeking to build alliances across the left.

The move comes after it was reported that Collective Scotland, a group operating as the Scottish arm of Corbyn and Sultana’s movement, was actively preparing for the 2026 Scottish Parliament election.

Today, Mr Corbyn will address a picket line of hospitality staff who are Unite members at the Village Hotel in Glasgow and are currently engaged in the first walkout at a major chain since 1979.

The staff are seeking to win a real living wage, paid breaks and pay equality with colleagues in Edinburgh.

The action began on August 2, with the first picket the following day.
