A Troon pub has announced that it is set to permanently shut its doors to customers.

McKays, on Portland Street, only opened back up in May this year and had just received planning permission to upgrade its beer garden.

However, the venue's operators have now confirmed the shock closure, with its final day of trading on Christmas Eve.

A spokesperson said: "We have tried our hardest to remain open and come to an agreement with the brewers to continue the lease, but they have not accepted our offers.

"Our last day of trading will be December 24, where we will have a party with singer Alan Frew and finish on a good time.

"Would be great to see you all. We want to extend our sincerest thanks to each and every one of you who has walked through our doors and supported us.

"It has meant the world to us, especially during challenging times recently.

"We have made some brilliant memories and friends along the way, and we are incredibly grateful for your support.

"We hope to see you for one last drink before we close."

The pub's operators also revealed that they are behind the recent reopening of the Drouthy Neebors bar in Ayr.
