The Herald and The Scottish Farmer are to lead a major media campaign in support of the 2026 Royal Highland Show.

The two publications are partnering with the Royal Highland and Agricultural Society of Scotland (RHASS) to provide multi-channel coverage of this year’s show for the first time.

The collaboration will bring together Scotland’s longest-running national newspaper, its leading agricultural title, and the charity behind one of the nation’s largest events.

The Herald and The Scottish Farmer will lead an integrated campaign focused on engaging audiences and spreading awareness about the Show, which was first held in 1822.

Features, video, newsletters, social media content and print promotion will appear in the two publications, as well as in The National and others across Newsquest’s regional portfolio.

Described as “the pinnacle of Scotland’s agriculture centre”, the Show will attract hundreds of thousands of visitors to the Royal Highland Centre in Ingliston between Thursday June 18 and Sunday June 21.

The four-day event features more than 1,000 trade exhibitors, world-class livestock competitions, family-friendly entertainment, cutting-edge machinery and technology, and a bounty of food and drink.

Commenting on the partnership, Catherine Salmond, Editor of The Herald, said: “Scotland’s rural economy, food culture and farming heritage sit at the heart of who we are as a nation – and the Royal Highland Show is where that story comes alive.

“This partnership allows The Herald to bring the energy of the Show to a wider consumer audience, while helping RHASS reach families, food lovers and day-out planners across the country. We’re proud to support an event that showcases the very best of Scotland.

“By working alongside The Scottish Farmer and RHASS, we have a fantastic opportunity to showcase the very best of Scottish agriculture to a national audience and to support an event which is both a highlight of the summer and a serious engine for jobs, skills and investment.”

Scottish Farmer editor John Sleigh added: “The Scottish Farmer has been reporting from the ringside at the Royal Highland Show for generations, championing Scotland’s farmers and rural communities since 1893. This partnership formalises a relationship that is already hugely important to our readers and allows us to go even further.

“By joining forces with The Herald and RHASS, we have a great opportunity to build the success of the show, which I know is close to so many of our readers' hearts.”

Similarly, RHASS chairman James Logan remarked: “The Royal Highland Show is our biggest fundraising event and plays a vital role in supporting our charitable mission for Scottish agriculture and rural communities.

“By partnering with The Scottish Farmer and The Herald, we can broaden our reach across both rural and urban audiences, tell more of the stories behind the Show, and strengthen engagement in the months leading up to June.

“We’re excited to work together to celebrate the innovation, people and produce that make the Show so special.”
