A historic Edinburgh close is set to be transformed into a new hub for culture and creativity.
The Pend, located on Old Fishmarket Close just off the Royal Mile, will open on May 15 as a year-round venue for events, community use, and co-working.
In Scotland, a ‘pend’ is a traditional passageway through a building that leads to a courtyard or street beyond. (Image: CODE Concepts)
Operated by CODE Concepts, the space aims to blend the city’s heritage with a modern, social experience, acting as a gateway for cultural exchange in the heart of the Old Town.
Meg Pritchard, head of operations at CODE Concepts, said: “The Pend is the culmination of months of brainstorming and really listening to what our guests want.
“Our team focused on creating something truly unique, while getting the fundamentals right in terms of what people value in their accommodation and social spaces.
“We can’t wait to see the result and hear about people’s experiences.”
The venue is designed to connect international visitors with Edinburgh’s creative scene, encouraging collaboration and artistic experimentation. A portion of tickets for each event will be reserved exclusively for CODE guests.
Katie Scott, head of events and experience at CODE Concepts, said: “We are incredibly excited about this project.
“It reinforces our commitment to supporting Edinburgh’s creative community and offers artists and performers a venue right in the heart of the Old Town."

Ms Scott added: “We can’t wait to see how people use the space, and to give CODE guests truly memorable experiences during their stay in Edinburgh."
Previously home to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe Society headquarters, the site will now host a programme of events featuring Scottish and international talent.
The Pend joins CODE Concepts’ growing footprint in the capital, which includes CODE The Court and The Lost Close, and follows the recent refurbishment of CODE The Loft on Rose Street.
