A second series of hit Netflix crime drama Department Q is set to be filmed in Edinburgh for five months.
According to a new production update, Department Q will begin shooting in the Capital on July 13, 2026, with filming expected to continue until December 11.
The show, created by Scott Frank and based on the bestselling novels by Nordic crime writer Jussi Adler-Olsen, previously filmed across Edinburgh and East Lothian.
The latest update, reported by What’s on Netflix and Production Weekly, marks a major step forward for the detective thriller following its official renewal in August 2025.
Season two had initially been expected to begin production in spring 2026, but the schedule has now shifted to July.
Key cast members confirmed to return include Matthew Goode as Detective Chief Inspector Carl Morck, Alexej Manvelov as Akram, Leah Byrne as Rose, and Jamie Sives as Hardy.
Creator Scott Frank is also set to return as director for the second season.

The first series featured several familiar Scottish faces, including Kelly Macdonald, Chloe Pirrie, Mark Bonnar, Shirley Henderson, Kate Dickie and Steven Miller.
Previous filming locations in Edinburgh included The Calders in Wester Hailes, the Royal Mile, Edinburgh City Chambers on High Street, and St Mary's Episcopal Cathedral on Palmerston Place.
East Lothian locations also featured prominently, including Lysander House in Dirleton, Yellowcraig Beach near North Berwick, and Stagg’s Bar in Musselburgh.
Locations for the five month filming period in Edinburgh are still to be confirmed.
