The golf course, which is a regular Open qualifying venue, was founded in 1879 and is regarded as "one of the finest inland layouts in Britain."
Plans have now been submitted to convert the overspill car park currently used by Ladybank Golf Club into a storage site.
Cupar-based Rennie Group Limited has proposed to build four warehouses, develop 13 car parking spaces, erect boundary fencing, and carry out associated works.
Three trees on the plot, which was previously a sand and gravel pit, are also earmarked for felling.

A report arguing the necessity of this said: “The trees are all found to be damaged, either by age or disease, and it is not thought that they will survive much longer. There is a concern that further deterioration in the health of the trees may result in falling branches or the trees themselves falling during adverse weather.
"This poses significant risk to nearby buildings, vehicles and people. As a result, it is the recommendation of the report and this submission that the trees be removed and replaced by six newly planted trees.”

The developers say they have considered all aspects of the plans so that they do not impact the nearby houses.
An accompanying statement submitted with the plans reads: "The site layout has been carefully considered so as not to negatively impact the nearby residential dwellings or detract from the B-Listed Water Tower opposite.
“A thorough examination and deliberation has been undertaken with regards to the trees on the site, however the most appropriate course of action, from both a financial and safety point of view, is to remove the damaged trees and replace with new ones.
"We believe the application submitted should meet with the planning authority’s approval as it is of an appropriate design and scale of development, and will be beneficial to the local area bringing new business and jobs.”
Ladybank Golf Club was founded in 1879 as a six-hole course laid out by Old Tom Morris, with holes played out and back over the same ground.
Extended to nine holes in 1910, then to 18 holes after land purchases in the mid‑20th century, the full 18 opened for play in the early 1960s.
The club has hosted Final Qualifying for The Open Championship on seven occasions since 1978, as part of the Fife Open Qualifying Trail.
