A protest message targeting the UK Government’s approach to digital identity was projected onto Edinburgh Castle on Wednesday.

The projection, which showed a looped video, was displayed on the side of the historic landmark as part of a campaign by The Together Declaration.

The group said the message was aimed at Prime Minister Keir Starmer ahead of a series of similar protests planned across the UK this coming weekend.

Demonstrations linked to the “Scrap Digital ID” campaign are due to take place on Saturday, May 25, between 2pm and 5pm in Edinburgh, London, Belfast and Cardiff.

The Together Declaration, which describes itself as a grassroots movement defending civil liberties, claims that despite ruling out compulsory digital ID, the Government is continuing to introduce systems that amount to mandatory identification.

The group argues that digital verification is increasingly required to access services and participate in everyday activities.

The campaign has previously used projections during major political events.

At the Labour Party Conference in October 2025, images depicting Mr Starmer as “Big Brother” were displayed on buildings in Liverpool.

Alan Miller, co-founder of The Together Declaration, said: “From continuing to try to force eight million directors on to One Login Digital ID, to peddling the under-16 social media ban, this government is continuing its attempt to have us all verify to participate.

“This was not in any manifesto, yet here we are again. At Together we are pushing back.

“The Government needs to listen to the people and scrap digital ID.”
