A teenage driver has died in a crash which sparked road closures near Kelty in Fife.

Police said the 17-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene following a collision between the blue Toyota Aygo he was driving and a yellow Volkswagen Golf.

The occupants of the Volkswagen were not at the scene when police arrived and enquiries were carried out to trace them.

The accident happened at around 2.25am on Sunday on the B914, near its junction with the A823. The driver's next of kin have been made aware.

A 20-year-old man has since been arrested in connection with the incident and enquiries are ongoing.

Sergeant Lee Walkingshaw said: "Our thoughts are with the 17-year-old male who has died.

"We are carrying out extensive enquiries to establish the full circumstances of this crash and we are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed what happened to contact police.

"In addition, anyone with dash-cam footage from around the time of the incident is asked to get in touch as this may be able to assist."
